Meet: Break Bar at Beach House, Bude, Cornwall

Research will soon draw to a close for 2023’s Coastal Café Guide. Herding up the coastal kittens to feature in this first-of-its-kind guidebook really is such a treat, for we get to meet genuinely kind, enthusiastic and ocean-loving café owners and restaurateurs who are thrilled to join this new foodie travel guide.

This chat about being in the book was so enjoyable (as many of them are), that they’ve kindly let us share. Read on to discover Break Bar at Beach House, Bude, North Cornwall: plonked on Widemouth Bay and with private access to one and a half miles of golden sands. It offers a wee hint of the coast-hugging delights that the first edition of this coastal collection will bring.

Break Bar at Beach House said, “Thanks so much for your kind words and for thinking of us, it was so lovely to speak with you today and find out more about the Coastal Café Guide. It sounds brilliant and we are over the moon to be a part of your fab project.

The guide sounds right up our street and it’s refreshing to hear that it’s focused on small independents like us who, in turn, support small independents and coastal communities battling along in these ever crazy times. Thank you for shining on a light on the little businesses, and for focusing on sustainability at the heart of all you do.

Working together to promote all the magic on the coastline is much needed, now more than ever. Plus, our page in your guide will save us hours in advising everyone of all the good places to go when they visit us at Beach House because you’ll already have mentioned them! I’ve got a good feeling that lots of our visitors will be taking a copy of the guide away with them when they go, especially as a % of all books sold is going to go to a high-impact environmental charity.

We’ve had visitors from over 38 countries and counting, along with locals who we reckon come to us from a 35-mile radius (as well as our UK-wide returning visitors). I have every faith that The Coastal Café Guide will be so well received; we’ll be sure to promote it and add to our little library here, too. It was a pleasure to talk to you, and we’re delighted to be on board; looking forward to seeing your creations!

Thanks for your support in promoting our bedraggled coastal communities. We’re working hard to promote all the good stuff in these ever crazy times as we face the long winter ahead with a big ole can of hope and an ever darker sense of humour!”
